Pregnancy and Chiropractic
Chiropractic care throughout pregnancy is safe and essential. Posture, centers of gravity, and pressures on the spine are constantly changing during pregnancy, placing new weight on the pelvis and lower back. While these changes are easily seen, resulting in the classic "waddle", many more changes are not visible but just as significant. These 'invisible' changes-chemical, hormonal, and emotional-are all controlled by the nervous system. The nervous system is effected by the spine, and the spine is effected by the pregnancy as well as everyday use and wear.
Special or modified adjusting tables provide for safe and effective chiropractic adjustment of the expectant mother. In the example pictured above, Dr. Cooksey is adjusting a model in her second trimester of pregnancy on a Gonstead Knee-Chest table. Much of the spine can be adjusted in this position, while protecting the baby.
If you are experiencing the joys of pregnancy, and the sore back that comes with it, call Dr. Cooksey and see what Chiropractic can do for you.
